Peter Minuit is said to have founded the state as far back as 1624, the first settlement set up at Albany when this state was first discovered. A year later, Minuit went ahead to acquire a place known as the Manhattan Island from a group of Indian settlers worth about 60 Dutch guilders, that’s how a Dutch colony, which is also referred to as the New Amsterdam, was formed. Interestingly, New Amsterdam is now current New York City.

The name New York can be traced as far back as 1673 when a young and brilliant Dutch captain is said to have taken the colony from England. Later, the name was changed to New Orange, which was meant to honor the prince of Orange known as king Williams who was the third to reign. Before the Island was renamed, it was initially owned by the Dutch inhabitants when it was called New Amsterdam. In 1665, this region was captured by the English, who later named it New York in 1665.

Millions of citizens from other parts of the nation will rather prefer staying in New York than any other country.
